HISTORY
Our school's history starts back in the late 1980's when our SaBamNim (Master Instructor), Nick Evans, was enrolled in a very small Karate school in Palmetto, FL. After this he went on to study other martial arts such as Kung Fu, Judo, and WuShu. Eventually, Mr. Evans was enrolled in "Sung Cho's Tae Kwon Do" under the instruction of KwanJangNim (Grand Master) Sung Whan Cho, and SaBamNim Tony M. Yates. Mr. Evans was awarded his 1st Dan black belt on Jan 22nd 1994. Mr. Evans continued his education with Sung Cho's Tae Kwon Do until it was turned into the "Gold Dragon Tae Kwon Do". The Gold Dragon was eventually sold, and change into "American Freestyle Martial Arts" - before it was closed a few months later due to lack of student attendance.
Mr. Evans enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1998, and attended basic combat training at Fort Sill, Ok - Home of the Field Artillery. He was also stationed at other U.S. Army bases such as:
Camp Blanding, FL
Fort Bliss - El Paso, Tx (3 stations)
Fort Benning, Ga
Fort Stewart, Ga (2 stations)
Mac Dill AFB - Tampa, FL
RedStone Arsenal - Huntsville, AL
During his time in the Army he was educated in M.M.A. (Military Martial Arts), close combat, urban fighting and warfare techniques, infantry tactics, and hand-to-hand combat. Upon returning home, Mr. Evans, joined the police force with the Bradenton Police Dept. where he was educated in defensive tactics and advanced ground fighting, along with other life saving techniques. All of these skills are brought to our studio as self defense techniques - along with the traditional teachings of Tae Kwon Do, direct from South Korea. Most of these extreme skill will be instructed to students as they progress in the ranks, starting wit the core basics. More detailed instruction of this nature is kept for black belts, becuase of the extreme nature of them. Additional items are in the mix as well, such as throws from Judo, and hand techniques form Karate.
HOW WE STARTED
In the early part of 2007, Mr. Evans' daughters saw a show on TV about Tae Kwon Do, and wanted to start learning this art. Mr. Evans checked into several local studios, and found that for 2 young people to join would cost approximately $600.00 for the first month alone, per child. The studios wanted contracts, purchase the first uniform, and limited classes that were not agreeable with personal life. Being a past instructor for Sung Cho's Tae Kwon Do, and the Gold Dragon Tae Kwon Do, Mr. Evans started to teach his daughters in the small living room (after moving furniture out of the way). His love of the art started to come back, so Mr. Evans decided to take his savings, and invest in renting a studio, with hopes that he would be able to teach people of all ages from the community, more especialy those that cannot afford high cost "McDojos". The same people that have a strong desire to participate and grow in this sport.
OUR PRICES
Our training charges are low, and are kept lower than any other in the area. Every few months we "check" other martial arts schols to ensure that we are lower cost than them. We do this so that anyone can enjoy Tae Kwon Do.
OUR NAME
Our name, "All Stars Tae Kwon Do", was created out of the common "ALL STAR" theme, with this difference, all of our students become STARS, and are all growing and rising stars. We encourage students to do their best. Students are expected to try their hardest, no matter how good or poor their skills are. We expect all students to come into Tae Kwon Do new, no knowledge, and ready to learn. Students are not expected to have any skills at all on their first day. Students that put in their best effort are rewarded accordingly.
